As part of my continuing effort to make the game's beer quality calculations as realistic as possible (within the limits of what this game engine can do) I noticed today that the three primary wheat beer styles in game "Wheat beer", "Weizen", and "Witbier" had different approaches to handling the presence or absence of wheat in the mash. The three styles have been adjusted and I have generally increased the penalty when wheat is not present in the recipe. Wheat can be added to the mash by including at least one of "Adjunct malted wheat", "Adjunct torrified wheat", or "Adjunct raw wheat" as an ingredient. Failure to include any wheat at all in these styles will result in a substantial quality penalty.
Some of you have commented to me in the past that wheat should be treated as a true malt additive rather than as an adjunct flavoring, I agree. I just didn't build the game engine to handle it properly and so as a workaround the game engine currently looks for the presence and/or absence of wheat in the adjuncts and how much is present and thereafter treats the malt as if it is properly proportioned with respect to wheat/barley. The amount of wheat used has a much smaller affect than the presence/absence condition. When I create a new generation of the game/game engine then I will properly handle wheat in the mash but for now I hope this information is helpful to improve the quality of your wheat based brews.
Cheers and thanks for playing!
