That Brewery Game - Game News
"Brew beer... Drink beer... Play!"

New styles activated

Well, the party lights are out and we are back to our normal game play. You may recall that when I announced the 26 new styles during our anniversary celebration that I included a small footnote that some were not quite yet available because of ABV limitations within the game's brewing engine. Well that footnote is gone now. All 51 styles can be brewed by players.

When this game's brewing engine was created it was designed for beers with ABVs between 3% and 12%. Looking back I can see that decision was a little short sighted, but the creation of sugars and alcohol is so deeply entwined in the engine that it is not such an easy thing to change. Nevertheless, I have been able to work within the existing brewing paramaters to allow ABVs up to 15%. This ABV level is stable and is about at the maximum of all but one of the new beer styles. Eisbock's are the exception since they are concentrated by freezing and can reach ABV levels above 30%. Of course... those alcohol levels are reached after the main fermentation through a freezing process. So I have added an internal step to the brewing process just for this style that allows Eisbocks up to 30% ABV. That is some seriously strong stuff!

Before I finish up let me just say that after looking over all the prizes and fun things that were in play during the anniversary event I have decided that a few things that were supposed to end should now become a normal part of the game. To that end the 6 foot long hoagie sandwich will remain available from now on. Also, the free raffle ticket for drinking a new beer label will also not be turned off but will instead become a regular part of the game. The latter should help new players who really need the raffle the most get a little extra chance to win. Enjoy!

Brew Beer. Drink Beer. Play! Thanks for playing and supporting TBG.

will the new styles get their own ranking by alcohol, quantity sold, and quality?

Yes, every new style will have its own leaderboard, its on my list of things to do. I didn't worry so much about getting them done fast since I know it will take a little while before there are a lot of people brewing in the new styles, but they will get done very soon. Thanks for the reminder!
